{"id":3708,"date":"2016-10-13T11:46:20","date_gmt":"2016-10-13T15:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationaltransaction.com\/credit-card-merchant\/?p=3708"},"modified":"2023-04-21T11:38:50","modified_gmt":"2023-04-21T15:38:50","slug":"code-10-first-line-defense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationaltransaction.com\/credit-card-merchant\/code-10-first-line-defense\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;CODE 10&#8221; FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<p><strong>Code 10 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltransaction.com\/\">merchants<\/a> first line of defense!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>How to use &#8220;Code&nbsp;10&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<ul>\n<li><b>Call the voice authorization phone number provided by your Merchant Provider.<\/b> This number can be found on the sticker on your terminal or call your Merchant Service provider and ask to be transferred to the Voice Authorization department.<\/li>\n<li><b>Choose the prompt for &#8220;Code 10&#8221;.<\/b>&nbsp;<b><i>Never<\/i><\/b> call a phone number for the card issuing bank provided by a customer; or let the customer call the card issuing bank for you to obtain an authorization code. <b><i>Do not<\/i><\/b> accept an authorization code given to you by a customer. Authorization code obtained from your Authorization Center can be verified; but not the one from other sources.<\/li>\n<li><b>Provide the cardholder name, billing address and shipping address, if the order is a mail order, phone or Internet sale.<\/b> The representative will attempt to verify the information you provide with the bank that issued the card to the customer.<\/li>\n<li><b>The representative will attempt to verify the cardholder information during your call;&nbsp;<\/b>the data will be forwarded to an investigator for further research and will attempt to contact you within 24 &#8211; 72 hours with the current status or results of the investigation.<\/li>\n<li><b>Request another form of payment other than a credit card if an authorization request is declined.<\/b> <b><i>Do not&nbsp;<\/i><\/b>split a declined transaction into smaller increments to obtain an authorization.<\/li>\n<li><b>Obtain an authorization code for the full amount of the sale.<\/b> Always obtain the authorization code <b><i>before&nbsp;<\/i><\/b>shipping the merchandise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"section\">\n<p>Whether you are in a face-to-face environment, or via mail, phone or Internet that&nbsp;sell goods and services&nbsp;you can employ a <strong>&#8220;Code&nbsp;10&#8221; authorization<\/strong> to verify additional information on a suspicious transaction.<\/p>\n<p>You may be prompted by your processing terminal to call for voice authorization of the charges (CALL AUTH), or you may simply not feel right about the transaction.
