Core Elements of PCI\u2019s Data Security Standard<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/b>This organization provides an international platform for the ongoing development, enhancement, storage, dissemination and implementation of security standards for account data protection. It is impossible to be involved in the credit card processing industry and not be aware of the PCI Security Standards Council.<\/p>\n

As such it is important to be aware of the core elements of the PCI\u2019s Data Security Standard (DSS).<\/p>\n

The following are the current fundamental principles and requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Build and Maintain a Secure Network<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requirement a. <\/em>Install and maintain a firewall configuration to protect cardholder data
\nRequirement b. <\/em>Do not use vendor-supplied defaults for system passwords and other security parameters<\/p>\n

Implement Strong Access Control Measures<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requirement c. <\/em>Restrict access to cardholder data by business need-to-know
\nRequirement d. <\/em>Assign a unique ID to each person with computer access
\nRequirement e. <\/em>Restrict physical access to cardholder data<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Maintain a Vulnerability Management Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requirement f. <\/em>Use and regularly update anti-virus software
\nRequirement g. <\/em>Develop and maintain secure systems and applications<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Maintain an Information Security Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requirement h. <\/em>Maintain a policy that addresses information security<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Protect Cardholder Data<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requirement i. <\/em>Protect stored cardholder data
\nRequirement j. <\/em>Encrypt transmission of cardholder data across open, public networks<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regularly Monitor and Test Networks<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requirement k. <\/em>Track and monitor all access to network resources and cardholder data
\nRequirement l. <\/em>Regularly test security systems and processes<\/p>\n
